July 23, 2025 Home in Haarlem
A world away. Our goal when traveling is always to feel at home whereever we may find ourselves. After 7 “summer getaways” and a lot of trials and errors we’ve managed to get pretty good at it.
After a meer 3000 miles, 11000 steps (acording to my fitbit, part of it lugging 60 pounds of baggage mostly bike gear), a few glitches, and some help from friends – alacadabra! We managed to magically transport ourselves from one comfortable “home” to another. Here we are at our “home away” – a quiet, secluded, shared courtyard right in the center of downtown Haarlem, NL.
After seeing thousands of strangers all day, the only people we saw all evening were 4 people wheeling their bikes from the shed through that black door, our the 200-year-old hallway and out to the street to join thousand of other cyclists for their daily ride home. Life as normal in this “home”.
No big glitches this year. The adventure finally begins. Today we pick up our bikes at our local bike shop. We’ve actually been invited by the owner to his birthday party bbq. That’s the way it is here. Feeling right at home.See you on the other side.
