Ferry to New Castle

The Scotland Adventure Begins

After a few days in our very familiar town of Haarlem we were off on another “first adventure”.  We left our lovely apartment on Voldergraft early in the morning headed toward Ijmuiden to catch the ferry.  A beautiful ride through Bloemendaal and the beautiful Zuid Kennemerland National Park to Ijmuiden (in spite of a 20 MPH headwind).  The  overnight ferry ride across the North Sea to New Castle was wonderful. Once landed we had an 11-mile ride to downtown where we picked up our vehicle and set off on our Scotland adventure.   Most of Scotland is not at all bike-friendly, so we need a van to hop between ridable places.
