August 7 Kootwijk Sand preserve

Harskamp is positioned between two national preserves with vast cyclepath networks  – the  Hoge Veluwe National Park  to the south and the Kootwijk preserve to the north. The entire provence sits on a high natural island between two great rivers the Waal and the Ijssel. We spent one of our days her exploring Kootwijkerzand.  It also contains a vast cycling and walking network but unlike de Hoge Veluwe the trails is not a consistent wide paved trails but rather a varied combination of narrow sandy paths and solid surface trails, some narrow paved trails, and some slow multiuse roads. In the heart of dense wooded areas of twisted pines, the Kootwijkerzand is a vast region of drifting sand that residents and guests use as their personal beach for picnicking, sunbathing, and enjoying fresh air.  The highest point features a huge tower that emphasizes the vastness of the drifting sand.
