August 3-4 Hay Barn to Barneveld

From Eemnes we pedaled on to Barneveld where we had booked another overnight at a Tiny House.  We enjoyed another nice ride through mostly rural areas with lots of scenery, classic Dutch farm complexes and farm animals. It was hot and we tired easily, so we stopped at a park bench – lovely wheeping willow and bridges. We don’t like to stop for lunch or rest unless we can keep our locked loaded bikes in sight, and we didn’t find such a place until a McDonalds near the end. There we encountered a new treat – “Popcorn Flurry” a bizarre sounding idea the sign said stolen from Indonesia that turned out to be surprisingly tasty. But the sugar overdose did make the last 10 km seem very long.

We arrived at our Tiny House with a very nice courtyard – very hot when we arrived but it became more pleasant as the day cooled. Which was a good thing because it was the only place to work comfortably. The town was very pretty and had a good Jumbo nearby.

We like tiny houses, but this interior didn’t rank as one of our all-time favorites. We enjoy having a private space and preparing our own meals – a travel-mode that suits us ever since living on boats for so many years. We always try to book places with ‘kitchen facilities’ and they are usually designed thoughtfully for simple food prep, and with clever places to store gear. This one was set up for coffee and tea, but not even the simplest meal prep. There was a microwave, but no containers that could be used for cooking, so dinner was a green salad and a sort of thin soup made in small cups. The fridge was too small to even cool a bottle of wine. No place to store gear and sleeping was hot.

Time to move on to greener pastures.

Not so perfect Tiny House
