August 15 – August 18 Burgundy Canal

We spent 4 beautiful, restful days on the Canal de Bourgogne in the shadow of the fairytale Chateau de Chateauneuf. Our place was amazing, very spacious, right in the center of town and a few feet from the canal trail, with gorgeous views of the Chateau.  I don’t have to write a lot about it – the photos tell the story and testify to why we’ve been back 3 times to this lovely town of Vandesse en Auxois. 

The only disappointment was a freak windstorm caused a blowdown on the trail over the over 2-mile long boat tunnel to Pouilly-en-Auxois.  The trail was impassable and falling trees even cracked some of the ventilation towers. We walked to people who brought their boat through the tunnel -they said it was pitch dark all the way and so narrow there is no way to avoid scraping the walls.
